The ever reliable Sumo has been around for decades, and as of today, there’s a new one available for sale.
This new Sumo, called the Sumo Gold, carries TATA’s hopes for the future of what has been their star product in the budget SUV segment.
Ankush Arora ,Sr. Vice President, Passenger Vehicle Business Unit (Commercial), Tata Motors Ltd., spoke about what the Sumo Gold brings to the table, he said, “The new Tata Sumo Gold is the most powerful entry-level SUV, with class leading performance & features, offering the young & progressive Indian entrepreneur with a stylish, new-age vehicle that takes on any terrain with ease. The new offering is a result of extensive consumer studies and field tests to fulfil various requirements, long-awaited by the new generation customer.”
In the looks department, Apart from the newly designed front grill and headlamps, the most obvious change is the addition of a raiment of brightly coloured graphics that make the car instantly noticeable. Front and rear fog lamps, wider dimensions, and new 15 inch wheels round up the visual refurbishment of this new Sumo.
Under the hood, the car boasts of a 3 -litre CR4 engine that produces 85PS and 250 Nm if torque. It does 0-60 km/h in 9.3 seconds, and TATA claim the car’s economy is to the tune of 15.3 km/l. The Sumo Gold also comes equipped with a brand new clutch, which according to Sumo, has improved the car’s performance to such a degree, that they are offering 1 lakh kilometres (or 3 years) of warranty.
The inside of the car has also been given a re-jig, as it now has a dual AC, the inclusion of a Noise Vibration Harness to bring down cabin noise levels, and an advanced music system that supports USB and Bluetooth connectivity. Apart from this, the car also has power steering, power windows and an engine immobiliser. There are 4 colour options for perspective owners to choose from, and the car will cost a minimum of approximately Rs.6 lakh, and above.
