Smaller luxury cars to drive volumes for the German company
MERCEDES-BENZ ARE thinking of introducing their compact car, the Smart, in India. Dr Dieter Zetsche, Chairman, Daimler AG, the parent company of Mercedes-Benz, was quoted talking about the Smart brand that India is one of the countries where there’s a very logical strategy to be made, with a good percentage of cars sold here being small cars.
The premium car-makers may depend upon their global partners, Renault-Nissan, for support in India for the small car and launch the Smart brand post-2014. Internationally, there are two variants available: the four-door Smart Forfour and two-door Smart Fortwo. Mercedes-Benz sell the Smart-badged cars at a more affordable price and we reckon it to be priced between Rs 12-15 lakh.
Mercedes-Benz will be launching their smaller luxury cars like the A-Class and B-Class along with a compact SUV to drive volumes and help the company regain its number one position among luxury car companies in India.
