New Euro 5-compliant engine to sit under the hood
GENERAL MOTORS STRUCK THEright note with the Cruze sedan last year.
The segment is contested by popular models like Honda’s Civic, Skoda’s Laura and the Toyota Altis. To keep the competition in check, GM now plan to upgrade the car with a new engine. The Cruze will get the Euro 5-compliant, 2.0-litre, DOHC common-rail diesel engine from GM’s Z series of engines. The power output will increase from the current 150 PS to 163 PS and the torque fi gure will also show a similar improvement.
The Cruze is currently offered with manual and automatic transmission options in the top variant, which GM are expected to retain in the upgraded Cruze too. The car is expected to feature a few design changes as well, such as the C pillar, which has been criticised for shrinkage of the rear headroom. Expect the upgraded Cruze to appear in showrooms towards the end of this year.
