Brakes comprise a traditional disc-at-the-front-and-drum-at-the-rear set-up and offer good bite to bring the car to a halt. To their credit, Tata Motors have equipped the Zest with a Gen-9 Bosch produced ABS unit along with some top-spec safety kit such as corner stability control that brakes the inner wheel in a bend to help you hold a tighter line through a corner.

The Tata Bolt then is a much improved product over what has been seen coming out of the Tata Motors stable. It’s got better build quality than before, more features than before and it’s as roomy as any of the Tata products before it. The turbocharged petrol engine, too, feels decent. Now, what remains to be seen is how well Tata Motors price their product and how consistent they are with their production quality. Even then, it’ll be a task for Tata Motors to challenge the entrenched competition in the Bolt’s segment. For in the end, despite their commendable efforts at improvement, the Tata Bolt is as good as the competition, at best. To create its own niche, however, what the Bolt (or other Tata products) need to be is better than its rivals.
