AH05_2012Audi-Unveil1Q5 gets the S badge at the world’s most prestigious motor racing event
At the 2012 Le MAns, Audi  unveiled the SQ5, which is the first production SUV from the premium German car-makers to get the S badge that is given to models meant for extreme performance.

However, unlike other S cars that feature petrol motors, the Q5 is powered by a  diesel engine.

The SQ5 is powered by a 3.0-litre V6 TDI engine that now gets twin turbo charging, allowing it to produce 313 PS of power and an unbelievable 650 Nm of torque. This gives the SQ5 the ability to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.1 seconds (as claimed by Audi). It retains the Quattro and gets a new quick shifting eight-speed Tiptronic auto transmission. These figures indicate theSQ5 to be pretty fast, but Audi have restricted its top speed to 250 km/h. The company also claims a fuel efficiency of 14 km per litre. Changes like flared air intakes, silver exterior mirrors, painted brake callipers and quad exhaust set the SQ5 apart from the normal Q5 in terms of appearance.

Its interior also gets a subtle dose of ‘S Badge’ throughout along with optional trimming and colours.

The SQ5 is expected to go on sale in the UK in October this year and we expect it to make its way to India in 2013. The price in the UK is expected to be about £45,000  (Rs 40 lakh).
