Volvo launched two new versions of the S60 sedan as well as the R-Design version of the all-new XC90 at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
Volvo have not been sitting quietly this year, and apart from the introduction of their new Drive-E engines globally, they have also introduced new models, including the first-ever crossover sedan – the S60 Cross Country – which was shown to the world just last week.
Furthermore, the US market will also receive the S60 Inscription, which addresses the issue some had with rear space. The S60 Inscription marks Volvo’s presence in the premium sedan segment with more features and more comfort with the new, more efficient engines also delivering on performance.
The all-new XC90 R-Design also marks the company’s entry into the burgeoning luxury SUV segment, with added sport and dynamic elements to go with the elegant design as well as safety and luxury aspects. The XC90 will offer drivelines delivering high fuel efficiency as well as high power, with the T8 TwinEngine dishing out up to 400 PS. The D5 turbo-diesel will be launched in India later this year.
The introduction of these new models is the latest in Volvo’s ongoing transformation, which involves the creation of a global industrial footprint and a complete renewal of Volvo’s product range over the next five years. Furthermore, the introduction of a new modular chassis technology, world-first safety technologies, a new design language, a new power-train architecture and a range of class-leading connectivity services. The effects of this transformation was clearer earlier this month after Volvo reported record full-year sales for 2014 with an 8.9% increase – a new record of 465,866 cars sold. December 2014 also marked the 18th month of consecutive sales increases.
