Home / Home / Tata Nano to come with CNG option soon

Tata_Nano_CNG_web1A few months after the refreshed and upgraded Nano facelift was made available for purchase, Tata intend on launching a CNG variant of the world’s cheapest car.

Slated for release later this month, Tata hope to cash in on the festive diwali season, and the public’s penchant for making purchases that goes with it.

Already an economically sound choice, both in terms of vehicle cost and efficiency, the addition of the CNG kit will lift its economy levels up another notch. We’ve recorded average fuel efficiency figures of 22 km/l for the petrol version of the Nano, and that degree of efficiency, coupled with the bargain-basement price of CNG when compared to petrol, will result in massive savings for any prospective buyer.

After rumours surfaced alluding to a delay in the launch of this CNG variant, christened the eMax, a representative of Tata clarified the issue, he was quoted to say that the company is preparing for the launch, which is going ahead according to schedule and the eMax will hit the markets by October 2013.

The eMax will feature the same 623cc engine as the petrol only model, which will be tuned to run on both fuel and gas. The eMax’s CNG tank will be capable of carrying 32 litres of gas, and will allegedly be positioned under the driver’s seat. The 3 petrol only variants currently available cost between 1.7 and 2.3 lakhs, and the gas compression kit will pile on a reported Rs. 30,000 more to the base price of these variants.
