Tellingly Turbocharged
This is the third TT and it brings more to the table. The 45 TFSI packs a 2.0-litre in-line four TFSI motor making 230 PS, up 19 PS from the previous car, with peak torque up 20 Nm, taking the total to 370 Nm. It has quattro four-wheel-drive and the six-speed S-tronic automatic gearbox; but even so, it’s more compact and, at 1,335 kg, lighter than before as well. The wheels and tyres too aren’t enormous, heavy circles and donuts: 245/40 R18s on light alloy wheels are part of the package. Audi Drive Select is also at hand, and offers a choice of ‘comfort’, ‘dynamic’, ‘auto’ and ‘individual’.
Select ‘comfort’ and the suspension is, well, more comforting. The steering wheel is shapely and feels very good to hold, and the weight is just right, though it feels heavier than other Audis, thankfully. The TT is extremely nimble and agile in the city, and although the ride height might not seem like much, the short wheelbase makes tackling the agonies of the city so much easier. Speed bumps, potholes and the odd debris piles never bothered this TT. The highway soon approached and, a touch of the knob later, the bark from the twin exhaust pipes confirms the car has understood the command. Attack mode on!
