SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) India announced the 4th edition of the Formula Supra competition which will be held between 16th and 19th July 2015 at the Madras Motor Racing Track (MMRT), Chennai. The Formula Supra competition is a national level engineering competition wherein engineering students are required to build a single-seater formula car within the regulations set by SAE India.
The competition is held in two stages – the virtual round and the physical round. The virtual round acts as an elimination round where the students are judged on the basis of a technical presentation of their proposed vehicle. If the students receive a green signal from the judges, the teams proceed to building the actual vehicle over a period of one year. The physical round consists of static and dynamic events and will culminate with a final endurance race. After 174 entries in the first round, 110 teams with approximately 25 students each were shortlisted for the final round.
The event calls to the fore technical as well as non-technical skills – such as acquiring sponsorships and other fundraising efforts, and is a major proving ground for budding engineers.
