Mercedes-AMG have officially acquired a 25% stake in MV Agusta, signing a long term partnership agreement, as well as collaboration on future marketing and sales efforts.
Neither MV Agusta nor Mercedes-AMG, have given any conformation on the price of the 25% investment, the speculation is that Mercedes-AMG have doled out around Rs 230 crore. For the Italian Motorcycle Company, this venture will help boost the company’s ability to grow into a full scale motorcycle brand and also enhance their presence in key markets like the US and western Europe.
On the flip side, this move will put Mercedes-AMG at par with other German automakers (Audi with Ducati and BMW with BMW Motorrad), as well as add to the probability of a two-wheeled crossover for enthusiasts.
Speaking on the occasion, Tobias Moers, CEO Mercedes-AMG, stated, “In MV Agusta, we have found the perfect two-wheel partner for Mercedes-AMG, this manufacture and Mercedes-AMG are connected not only by a long and successful racing history, but also by shared values and goals for the future – allowing the experience of utmost perfection, optimal performance and motor sport technology for the road”.
We would love to see a twin-turbo AMG motor makes its way onto two wheels, but for now we have to wait and see.
