WagonR sales cross 10 lakh mark in 12 years
Maruti Suzuki added yet another feather to their cap recently when their popular compact car, the WagonR, crossed the 10 lakh mark in sales since its launch in 1999.
The WagonR is not the only car from Maruti’s stable to cross this significant figure, its siblings like the Alto, Omni and 800 have also crossed this landmark figure earlier. Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) Chief General Manager (Marketing) Shashank Srivastava said, “This is a proud moment for all of us and it genuinely makes me very happy because a milestone has been achieved in the domestic market.”
At present, the WagonR is Maruti Suzuki’s second best selling model after the Alto. According to Srivastava, the company currently sells about 15,000 units of the WagonR while the Alto sells about 30,000 units in the same duration. The WagonR received a complete makeover last year, which has pushed it up further on the sales chart. At present, Maruti Wagon-R competes with the Chevrolet Beat, Ford Figo, Hyundai i10 and Volkswagen Polo in the Indian market.
