Backed by Mahindra, SAEIndia announced the 8th edition of the BAJA tournament 2015 today. The event has grown exponentially over the years and will be a proving ground to over 120 colleges with 25 student members from each team. The number of applicants has gone up to 323 and the filtration criteria like virtual rounds have been more stringent this year to keep the number of teams to 120, given the limitations of the track in Pithampur, Indore – the venue for the tournament. In an effort to expand the magnitude of the event, the organizers are working on improving the track and also increasing the length.
Speaking on the occasion Dr. K.C. Vora also introduced the e-BAJA, which involves All Terrain Vehicles (ATVs) powered by an electric motor instead of a conventional petrol engine. The move is intended to boost the students’ interest in alternative fuels and cleaner technologies for the future. Based on the theme ‘Beyond Boundaries’, BAJA 2015 will also play host to international teams who will be participating alongside Indian teams.
