THE 12TH CAR India Awards were presented last month. We had 29 cars lined up for the jury members to drive. They had a long day driving all the cars to make sure the deserving automobile won the coveted award. I would like to thank all the jury members for taking the time out and going through each and every car thoroughly before making their choice. The jury’s choice was the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza. This year the Brezza has won most of the awards, including the Indian Car of the Year (ICOTY).

Last month was extremely hectic. There were 11 launches, some of them all-new cars and some others variants. The automobile industry is witnessing growth post demonetisation with Maruti crossing the 1,00,000 mark.

The FMSCI awards were held in Hyderabad and Gaurav Gill was awarded the Motorsports Man of the Year.

Every time one drives a new car from any of the German manufacturers, they make the previous model totally dated; just as the new E-Class does to the previous generation car. When it comes to local manufacturers, they struggle to do this. In fact, sometimes they find it di• icult to match what is already available in the market.

The new E-Class with its long wheelbase has taken the game to a new level in luxury space, comfort and refinement. It is the new benchmark. Read our first drive report in this issue.
