Lamborghini have revealed a sensational new plug-in hybrid technology demonstrator in the new Asterion LPI 910-4.
The ‘LP’ in the name is still ‘longitudinal posterior’ with the ‘I’ standing for ‘ibrido’. 910-4 should be self-explanatory by now.
Under that sleek new Blue Elektra-coloured exterior, the Asterion uses the 5.2-litre V10 motor from the Huracán together with three electric motors. What that means is 610 PS and 560 Nm of torque from the engine, with an additional 300 PS from the three electric motors. Combined, they deliver 910 PS and a whole lot of torque, the net output is something which even Lamborghini haven’t disclosed.
In pure electric mode, the Asterion can cover 50 km at up to 125 km/h. The CO2 emissions are 98 g/km and the combined fuel consumption in Hybrid mode is 24.3 km/l. Given the beans, the Asterion, with the V10, three motors and dual-clutch transmission in action together, will hit 100 km/h in 3.0 seconds and touch 320 km/h.
With the big Urus SUV set to arrive in the next couple of years, hybrid electric technology will be a strong point in achieving both driveability and efficiency targets in conditions which get more demanding by the day.
