Audi unveiled the new Q7 plug-in-hybrid at the Geneva Motor Show. Audi, known for their technological innovations, have once again achieved an amazing feat, creating the first in its class TDI plug-in-hybrid with quattro all-wheel drive.

The new Q7 e-tron combines Audi’s 3.0-litre V6 TDI engine, with lithium-ion battery technology for a potential range of over 1,400 km, and the ability to travel emission-free for about 55 km on electric power alone. The powerful plug-in-hybrid drive system has a net peak output of 373 PS and 700 Nm of torque. The electric motor produces 94 kW (128 PS equivalent) and 350 Nm of torque. Coupled to an eight-speed tiptronic automatic transmission, the new hybrid Q7 clocks the 0-100 km/h sprint in 6.0 seconds, and continues up to a top speed of 223 km/h.

In India, CO2 emissions are on the rise, and shifting form conventional engines to plug-in-hybrids will help in keeping what little of the ozone layer we have left. Sadly, emissions aren’t being given as high a priority as they should be. Audi have announced that deliveries of the new Q7 will begin in UK by the end of 2015, and we hope the hybrid Q7 reaches Indian shores soon too.
