Ariel Motor Company have launched a hardcore, off-road, brute of a sibling to the venerable Atom, the Nomad.
The Ariel Nomad, as we had reported earlier, is finally out of the bag and the details have already got us salivating. The Nomad weighs just 670 kg, but sports a tuned-up Honda K24 2.4-litre four-pot making all of 238 PS at 7,200 RPM with a peak 300 Nm of torque coming in at 4,300 RPM! That’s good for 355 PS/tonne and close to 450 Nm/tonne, which, in plain English, very fast, nimble and mind-numbingly quick! Ariel claim a 0-96 km/h time of 3.5 seconds and a top whack of over 200 km/h!
The Nomad embodies everything the Atom stood for – it’s lightweight, simple, fast and fun, but with the added ruggedness. The crafted bronze roll-cage of a chassis is as eye-catching as it is functional. Lightweight, simple and strong, the framework protects both occupants and allows the Nomad to actually be half-competition and half-road car. Like Ariel say, everything is there for a reason, nothing extra.
