STANAG

STANAG 4569 stands for NATO’s Standardisation Agreement that defines the degree of protection an LAV provides its occupants, ranging from kinetic energy to IED blasts.

Level one: Equivalent of a blast from a hand-grenade and small detonations of a similar nature.

Level two: An explosive mass measuring up to six kn usually caused by an anti-tank (AT) mine, either under a wheel or the centre of the vehicle.

Level three: This level is reached when the explosive blast reaches eight kg from an AT mine under the wheel or the belly of the LAV.

Level four: Artillery damage from a 155-mm high-explosive from a distance of 30 metres or a 10-kg explosive mass created due to an AT mine.

Level five: A 25-mm armour-piercing discarding sabot round (APDS-T) or equivalent from 500 metres travelling at 1,258 metres/second or a C4 explosive mine of over five kilograms
