The revolutionary new Porsche 918 Spyder is officially slated to go into production come September 2013

Porsche has announced that their first plug-in hybrid supercar, the 918 Spyder, has entered into its next phase after finishing a series of driving trials.

The 918 Spyder is a plug-in hybrid vehicle with a high-performance combustion engine and cutting-edge electric motors. It sports a monocoque design made from full carbon fiber reinforced with plastic or CFRP.

The 918 Spyder also features fully adaptive aerodynamics, adaptive rear-axle steering and state of the art upward-venting “top pipes” exhaust system. The German car manufacturer also mentioned that its racing machine will feature more than 780 PS and a fuel consumption figure of approximately three liters per 100 kilometers.

Porsche have stated that its 918 Spyder will be heading to the production line at the end of September 2013, and a limited quantity is expected to be produced with the first customer deliveries currently scheduled for the United States late in 2013.

Wolfgang Hatz, Member of the Executive Board R&D at Porsche stated, “What they are doing with the 918 Spyder is redefining the driving fun, efficiency and performance of the car”. The 918 Spyder has the DNA associated with supercars in Porsche history, as technology demonstrators, the driving force behind emotion and evolution alike.
