DSG and TSI engines two major changes in the 2012 Race Polo

VW revealed information about Polo R cup 2012, the championship and the car. The biggest change in this year’s cup car is a shift from diesel to petrol engine. The Race Polo will now be powered with a 1.4-litre TSI engine, producing 182 PS power and 250 Nm torque, two-wheel drive. Another good news is introduction of DSG to the car.

About the championship now. Unlike last two years, this season will see three categories in the championship: Junior, Pro and Master. Drivers aged between 16-26 years and race experience limited to 8 races or less in a national championship in the last 5 years, will be considered under Junior category, those with experience of more than 8 races will be in Pro and drivers aged 26 years or above will come in Master category. The annual fee for Junior and Pro class is Rs 7 lakh and for Master class is Rs 14 lakh. Prize money for the top three drivers in every category is Rs 50,000, Rs 40,000 and Rs 30,000 respectively.

With 20 young drivers participating this year, the first race of the season will be held at Kari Speedway, Coimbatore on July 6th, 2012.
