Fiat India recently revealed details of its plans to grab a bigger slice of the Indian car market.
On the anvil is the launch of the Jeep brand in India, with nine new or refreshed Fiat and Jeep models. The Jeep Wrangler and Grand Cherokee will be imported into India in end-2013. A special Jeep dealer network will be set up by using the service and parts support from the Fiat dealer network.
The new Fiat Linea classic edition and the new Fiat Punto edition will form part of the company's expanded domestic production. Jeep's CEO revealed a three-pronged India strategy, comprising new vehicles including Jeep, establishing and expanding an independent dealer network, and taking strong marketing initiatives for improved brand perception and awareness. Fiat will be growing its independent dealer network to around 120 by 2013, and setting up the Fiat Caffe that will give access to information about Fiat's history and technological prowess.
