Shifting to the Stick – New WagonR Manual Transmission

Maruti Suzuki WagonR New WagonR

The bread-and-butter, stick-shift, manual transmission version of the new WagonR is also going to be a hot-seller as it is the standard transmission on the base LXi and is also available in all the other trims. This ZXi trim is identical to that on the AGS version and the only changes are the H-gate shift lever and the addition of a third pedal. The clutch pedal action is light and the travel is short, making shifting natural and nearly effortless. The shift feel from the lever is also smooth and the clunks into place are reassuring. The handling and dynamics remain identical, save for the fact that the manual puts you in complete control and the engine feels good to coast at as low as 900 rpm and feels strong even approaching 6,000 rpm. The variants with the 1.0-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine were not present. Interestingly, the claimed fuel efficiency of 21.5 km/l is for both manual and AGS 1.2-litre variants; the 1.0-litre version’s claim is 1.0 km/l better.
