Maruti Suzuki are all set to launch the new avatar of their popular, sub-four-meter sedan the Dzire in May this year. But unlike the previous iteration that consisted mostly of cosmetic updates, the latest Dzire is rather a brand new car. Yes, Maruti Suzuki have used the Baleno platform to shape the new Dzire and also it’s hatchback sibling the Swift. However, Maruti have decided to launch the Dzire before the Swift hits the market.

Anyway, being based on a lighter platform, the new Dzire will surely benefit in terms of fuel-consumption, which will be lower, and performance, which should be higher, in theory. However, we can’t really confirm that without driving the car. Anyway, apart from a new platform, most of the things in the new Dzire are going to exactly the same as those in the new Swift. Like the front-end, which features the same Hexagonal grille, new head-lamps and DRLs. The tail-lamp however, is going to be different.

The cabin too gets a revamp with new air-con vents, a new centre console that is dominated by a huge infotainment screen; the same unit we have seen in the Baleno, Ciaz, Ignis and S-Cross; new instrument console with twin-pod dials and a new steering wheel. However, the dual-tone finish on the dashboard will remain.

We do expect some changes in terms of interior space, mainly because of the 20 mm increase in the wheelbase (2,450 from 2,430 mm), which should liberate slightly more knee room in the back. However, we will have to wait a bit longer for the official specifications to be out.

Maruti will be launching the new Dzire with the same engine options the car is available with now. This means that the K-Series 1.2 litre, four-cylinder motor will be offered in the petrol variant and the 1.3 litre DDiS engine will serve the diesel variants. Transmission options will be limited to either a five-speed manual gearbox or a four-speed autobox for the petrol variant and a five-speed AGS or Auto Gear Shift box for the diesel variant. Power and torque output will remain the same as the current model, however, since the new Dzire is going to be lighter, expect better fuel-efficiency and performance figures.

Maruti is expected to price the Dzire petrol between Rs 5.5 lakh to Rs 7.5 lakh for the petrol variants and Rs 6.8 lakh to Rs 8.9 lakh for diesel variants, all prices ex-Pune.
