BMW India today launched the new 7 Series at an event in Mumbai, in four models of which the 730Ld will be manufactured at BMW’s Chennai plant, while the 740Li, 750Li and 760Li will be imported as CBU (Completely Built-Up Units).

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Philipp von Sahr, President, BMW Group India said that the new 7 Series continued the 70-year-old legacy of BMW’s flagship luxury sedan with a mix of exclusivity and functionality that made it attractive to drive and to be driven in.

On the outside, the car now uses adaptive full-LED headlights, and is available in one non-metallic shade and ten metallic shades. The interior features standard Dakota and exclusive Nappa leather upholstery in six color options and interior fine-wood trims in four options. There is also the next generation of BMW iDrive and the BMW Navigation Professional (integrated GPS) with hard drive storage and a 25.9 cm high-resolution display as standard. The rear seat entertainment package includes BMW ConnectedDrive with two newly designed 23.3 cm colour screens and a personal iDrive Controller.

The 730Ld is powered by a TwinPower Turbo six-cylinder in-line diesel engine using a variable geometry turbocharger and CommonRail direct injection for an improved maximum power output of 261.5 PS and maximum torque of 560Nm at 1,500 rpm. The car can accelerate from 0-100 kph in 6.2 seconds going to a top speed of 250 kph. Transmission duties are handled by a new eight-speed automatic transmission with cruise control.

For safety, the new 7 Series includes an Attention Assist function that recognises if the driver is distracted or tired and flashes a notification via the Control Display, suggesting that the driver takes a break.

The new 7 Series is now available in diesel and petrol variants at all BMW dealerships across India and deliveries are slated to commence from May 01, 2013 onwards. The range is priced at Rs 92.9 lakh for the 730Ld, Rs 1.12 crore for the 740Li, Rs 1.29 crore for the 750Li, and Rs 1.73 crore for the 760Li (ex-showroom across India).
