The Tata Tiago and Tigor iCNG are the first CNG cars in India to get the option of an automated transmission.
Tata Motors are ahead of the curve in the Indian automotive industry with the Tiago and Tigor iCNG as with the launch of automatic variants, they are the first CNG cars in the country to get the option of an automated manual transmission (AMT). Prices start at Rs 7.90 lakh (ex-showroom) for the Tiago iCNG AMT whilst the Tigor iCNG AMT retails from Rs 8.85 lakh, (ex-showroom) onwards.

The main talking point of the automatic Tiago and Tigor iCNG variants of course lies under the hood. The transmission in question for both cars is a five-speed AMT unit and is paired to a 1.2-litre petrol engine pushing 73.5 hp and 95 Nm in CNG mode. This joins the five-speed manual option already on offer. Tata Motors claim the two CNG models offer a mileage of 28.06 km/kg.
Aside from the twin-cylinder tanks sitting underneath the boot of both cars, the Tiago and Tigor iCNG models get all the bells and whistles from their respective petrol counterparts. Also, the carmaker has gone ahead and added a Tornado Blue shade for the Tiago, a Grassland Beige body shade for the Tiago NRG and a Meteor Bronze paint option for the Tigor.
Of course, the addition of the automatic iCNG variants come at a price hike compared to their manual counterparts which is up to Rs 55,000 for the Tiago iCNG AMT and up to Rs 60,000 for the Tigor iCNG AMT. Nevertheless, this extra gearbox option should help the Tiago iCNG fare better against rivals like the Maruti Suzuki Celerio CNG and Hyundai Grand i10 Nios CNG, with the Tigor CNG having better ammo against the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Dzire S-CNG and Hyundai Aura CNG.
